Governor William Simmons of Arizona.
William Simmons was a member of the Liberty Party from Arizona who was elected Governor of Arizona in 1875, filling a vacancy left when incumbent Governor Thomas Rogers ran unsuccessfully for President of Mexico in 1875. Three months after the election, Senator Hiram Green retired, and Simmons appointed Rogers to replace him.
