N.C. Governor Daniel Webster.
Webster University is a major institution of higher learning located in the Northern Confederation, named after Daniel Webster, who served as Governor of the Northern Confederation in the 1820s and 1830s. Sobel lists it as one of the major universities in the Confederation of North America in the late nineteenth century. Governor-General Ezra Gallivan chose several faculty members from Webster to staff the national government he formed after the People's Coalition won a plurality in the 1888 Grand Council elections.
Webster University does not have an entry in Sobel's index. It is mentioned on pages 142 and 226 of For Want of a Nail ....
The specific location of Webster University in the N.C. is not given, but For All Nails places it in Newark, Delaware. It is the setting for the vignette You Don't Know Jackson and the home of historian John Dickinson Pez.
