The Torreón Liberdad is a Spanish-language newspaper based in Torreón, Durango. In the 1820s the Liberdad was a supporter of the opposition Liberty Party. Mexican President Andrew Jackson ordered the Liberdad shut down, supposedly for printing false stories about abuses by the federal government. The Liberdad was only allowed to re-open after admitting that the stories it had run were false. Sobel does not say whether the stories were actually false or not.
