South Africa is the southern portion of the African continent. Due to its strategic importance as a stopover point between the Atlantic and Indian Oceans and its temporate climate, the Dutch East India Company established a resupply station near the Cape of Good Hope in 1652. The resupply station grew into the Cape Colony as more European settlers arrived, including nearly two hundred French Huguenots who had fled persecution in France for the Netherlands and were resettled at the Cape. During the chaos of the Bloody Eighties some 47,000 Dutch emigrated from the Netherlands to the Cape Colony.
In For All Nails the Cape Colony became an autonomous kingdom called the Cape Kingdom in a dynastic union with the Dutch crown in 1879. After the German conquest of the Netherlands in the Global War the Cape Kingdom became independent, with an elective monarchy.
