The Secretary for Indian Affairs is a member of the Mexican Cabinet who heads the Department of Indian Affairs and carries out policy in the United States of Mexico involving the country's large Indian population.
The only Secretary for Indian Affairs to be mentioned by Sobel is Miguel Montanez, who was appointed to Jackson's Cabinet in September 1821. It is likely that the Indian Affairs position was one of several (along with Secretary for Religions) that were routinely awarded to Hispano politicians as a way to reward them for their support of Mexico's Anglo-dominated national government.
