Saratoga

Saratoga, New York.

Saratoga is a town in New York Province on the west bank of the Hudson River. It was first founded by the Dutch in the seventeenth century as Fort Saratoga. The original village was destroyed by French troops in 1745 during King George's War, but was rebuilt afterwards.

The town is best known as the site of the Battle of Saratoga, a series of conflicts between General John Burgoyne and the rebel general Horatio Gates in September and October 1777 during the North American Rebellion.
