The San Francisco Sun is newspaper based in San Francisco, California.

In the 1820s the Sun was a supporter of the opposition Liberty Party. Mexican President Andrew Jackson ordered the Sun shut down, supposedly for printing false stories about abuses by the federal government. The Sun was only allowed to re-open after admitting that the stories it had run were false. Sobel does not say whether the stories were actually false or not.
