The Mexican First Fleet is a unit of the Navy of the United States of Mexico.
During the War for Salvation between the U.S.M. and New Granada, the First Fleet, under the command of Admiral Frank Butland seized the New Granadan port of La Guaira on 2 March 1890, then followed this up the next day by capturing the port of Caracas. The First Fleet continued to operate along the coast of the Venezuela region of New Granada while the Mexican First Army under General Francisco Goodspeed established control of the interior.
Sobel's sources for the First Army's actions during the War for Salvation are John Earley's A History of the New Granada Expedition (New York, 1914); and Miguel Olin's El Jefe's War for Salvation (New York, 1956).
