Melbourne is the capital of the nation of Australia. It was almost certainly named after a member of the Lamb family of Nottinghamshire, England; Peniston Lamb was raised to the Irish peerage in 1770 as Lord Melbourne, Baron of Kilmore, in the County of Cavan. It is likely that either Peniston or one of his four sons played a significant role in the colonization of Australia by the British, and that the Australian capital was named after them in consequence.
Executives from Kramer Associates in Melbourne met with the leadership of the Australian government in 1939 and 1940 to warn them that Mexican President Alvin Silva intended to attack Australia in the near future. The Australian government agreed in 1940 to an informal alliance with K.A. and Japan.
