Malcolm McGregor

Malcolm McGregor.

McGregorization is a term that was coined in the Northern Confederation during the Era of Harmonious Relations. It refers to the control of a whole region and all the people in it by a privately-owned company. The term comes from Malcolm McGregor's Society for Industry, a vertically-integrated mining, iron foundry, and manufacturing center founded in Chester County, Pennsylvania after the Trans-Oceanic War. McGregor also built housing and established shops and banks in the Society, so that his workers not only worked in his factories, they also lived in his houses and purchased goods and services from his shops with money issued by his banks.

As the Society spread across southeastern Pennsylvania, rival businesses were either taken over by it or forced out of business by it. By the early nineteenth century McGregor had become the most powerful man in Pennsylvania, gaining control of the provincial government and sending his own men as Pennsylvania's delegates to the Northern Confederation Council.
