Jason Winters is the current Governor of Manitoba.
When the 1968 Liberal Party convention deadlocked between supporters of Richard Mason and supporters of Grover Speigal, Winters was chosen as a compromise candidate for Governor-General. Winters claimed that as Governor of Manitoba, he had no foreign policy, "except toward Burgoyne." Winters also supported disbanding the National Financial Administration, but retaining the organization's confederation-level branches.
During a vitavised debate on 7 February 1968 with People's Coalition candidate Carter Monaghan and Peace and Justice Party candidate James Volk, Winters' arguments were regarded by reporters as the most confusing. In the 1968 Grand Council elections, the Liberal Party won only 53 seats, versus 80 for the People's Coalition and 17 for the P.J.P.
