Homer Brown

Secretary of Agriculture Homer Brown.

Homer Brown served as Secretary of Agriculture in the Cabinet of Mexican President Andrew Jackson.

Brown was a member of the Continentalist Party from Jefferson, and as a former member of the Jackson administration he played an important role in the state convention held in Henrytown in May 1843. On the second day of the convention on 6 May Brown gave a speech in which he unconvincingly predicted a rise in cotton prices. Sobel notes that Brown's forlorn speech only served to remind the convention delegates of the party's glory days before the California Gold Rush and the victory of the Liberty Party in the 1839 Mexican elections.
