The Hermión family was a prominent political family in the United States of Mexico and New Granada.
The founder of the Hermión family was Pedro Hermión, who was elected President of the U.S.M. in 1845 and assassinated six years later. Pedro Hermión's most prominent children were his eldest son Victoriano Hermión, who was appointed President of New Granada in 1890, and his younger son Benito Hermión, who became Chief of State of Mexico in September 1881, declared himself Emperor of Mexico in April 1901, and was deposed in October 1901.
Victoriano Hermión's son Carl Hermión succeeded him as President of New Granada, and his branch of the Hermión family continued to rule New Granada as of 1971. Benito Hermión fled to Spain after his ouster, settling in a walled villa outside Barcelona, and his son Frederick Hermión continued to claim the title of Emperor of Mexico after Benito's death in 1911. Frederick's son Joseph Hermión continued to claim the title, and married a member of the exiled Romanov dynasty, Alexandra Romanov, in 1914. Joseph and Alexandra's son Benito Hermión II was born in 1920, and Sobel mentions that he is a professor of linguistics at Madrid University. Benito's son Pedro Hermión II is a noted equestrian, and in 1969 was given permission by the Mexican government to travel to Mexico City to purchase horses.
In For All Nails the New Granadan branch of the Hermión family is overthrown in 1973.
