The Hawley Tariff was a tariff bill passed by the Liberal Party majority in the Fourth Grand Council of 1858 - 1863 and signed into law by Governor-General Kenneth Parkes. It was the largest tariff passed by the Grand Council up to that time, and although Sobel does not give details concerning which goods were covered by the tariff, the fact it was done at the behest of the large industrial companies that controlled the Liberals suggests that it was aimed at foreign steel, coal, and manufactured goods.
The Hawley Tariff does not have an entry in Sobel's index.
