Guatemala City.

Guatemala City is the capital of the nation of Guatemala. It was founded in 1775 as the new capital of the Captaincy-General of Guatamala after the previous capital, Antigua Guatemala, was destroyed by an earthquake.

On 9 March 1870 a revolution broke out in Guatemala City, led by Senator Vicente Martinez and funded by the California-based consortium Kramer Associates. Within four days, Guatemalan President Miguel Rubio was forced to flee the city, and Martinez proclaimed himself president.

Guatemala City fell to the Mexican Fourth Army under General Miguel Aguilar on the morning of 15 November 1886, which marked the end of the Isthmian War. On 25 December 1886, Mexican Chief of State Benito Hermión traveled to Guatemala City to celebrate Christmas in San Sebastian Church.
