The Governor of California is the chief executive of the Mexican state of California.
The only Governor of California mentioned by Sobel is Alberto Puente, who served as governor during the dictatorship of Benito Hermión. It it unknown whether Puente was popularly elected, or whether he was appointed to the office by Hermión. In either case, Puente's loyalty was not to Hermión, but to Diego Cortez y Catalán, the President of Kramer Associates, the largest corporation in the United States of Mexico. Together, Puente and Cortez were able to provoke the Great Northern War between Mexico and the Russian Empire, thereby allowing Cortez to gain control of the recently-discovered gold fields in Russian Alaska.
