Fort Lodge

Fort Lodge, Southern Vandalia.

Fort Lodge is the capital of the Confederation of Southern Vandalia, and along with St. Louis is one of the confederation's two major cities. It is located at the juncture where the Kansas River flows into the Missouri River.

Fort Lodge was founded as an army base by the Confederation of North America during the Rocky Mountain War of 1845 - 1855. It was named after General Philip Lodge of the Northern Confederation. Fort Lodge's position at the junction of two major river systems in the Confederation of Vandalia made it a popular destination for settlers coming up the Missouri River from St. Louis. Many of these settlers were formerly enslaved Negroes from the Southern Confederation who had ended their indentures under the Philipson provision of the Lloyd Bill, and who chose to leave the S.C. rather than remain with their former masters.

The increasing numbers of Negroes settling in Vandalia led to growing conflict with white settlers in the northern part of the confederation. This racial conflict was resolved in 1877 when Vandalia was separated into northern and southern halves, with the northern half mostly white and the southern half mostly Negro. Since the Vandalian capital of Galloway was located in the new Confederation of Northern Vandalia, Fort Lodge was established as the capital of Southern Vandalia. Burgoyne Willkie was elected Governor of Southern Vandalia, and the members of the Vandalia Council who resided in the new confederation formed a new Southern Vandalia Council in Fort Lodge.
