Edwin Bromfield was a North American businessman who founded the North American Steel Corporation in 1871, using the open-hearth furnace technique invented by Henry Woodhouse and refined by Milton Rommell and expanding it to an industrial scale. By 1885, North American Steel was producing more steel than all the steel producers in Great Britain.
