Cortez Mines, Ltd. was a Kramer Associates daughter company created as part of the Jackson restructuring engineered by K.A. President John Jackson from 1929 to 1932. The company was named after the second president of K.A., Diego Cortez y Catalán. Cortez Mines would have been responsible for the operation of K.A.'s mineral extraction subsidiaries throughout the world, including the copper mine in the Congo financed by the company's namesake in 1891.
