The Capital District is a special administrative district created by Andrew Jackson in the Mexico City Constitution of 1820. It is located between the states of Chiapas and Durango.
The Capital District includes the capital of the United States of Mexico, Mexico City, as well as several surrounding cities such as Chapultepec. It is administered directly by the Mexican national government. Although Sobel does not specifically say so, it is likely that Jackson created the C.D. so that Mexico City would not be under the administrative control of any of the Mexican states.
The Capital District was the location of several important events in Mexican history, including the 1914 Battle of Chapultepec during the Hundred Day War and the Chapultepec Incident of January 1916.
