Cabral Fernandez

Cabral Fernandez.

Cabral Fernandez was one of two young men who sought to take advantage of the growing idolization of Pedro Hermión, the late former President of the United States of Mexico, by coming forward in 1859 claiming to be Hermión's illegitimate son. Sobel does not say what became of Fernandez, and Fernandez does not have an entry in Sobel's index. He is mentioned in a footnote on p. 134 of For Want of a Nail ....

Sobel's source for Fernandez's appearance and claim is Margaret McQuire's The Hermión-Craze: Mass Delusion in Mexico (London, 1910).
