Agustin de iturbide

Secretary for Religions Agustín de Iturbide.

Agustín Cosme Damián de Iturbide y Arámburu (1783 - ?) was a military leader in the Clericalist faction of the Mexican Civil War. Iturbide was a member of the Mexico City Convention that drafted and ratified the Mexico City Constitution. Iturbide was critical of the Constitution, but he recognized that Provisional President Andrew Jackson could not be stopped, and he tempered his objections with praise of Jackson, in hopes of being included in his government. When Jackson formed his first government in September 1821, he offered Iturbide the post of Secretary for Religions, and Iturbide accepted.
